Studio Name: Richard Swenson

Artist Name: Richard Swenson
Medium: metal
Studio Location: 1835 Los Pueblos - Stop #10

Description: Upon retirement from a lifelong career as a scientist, Richard Swenson initially spent his free time restoring John Deere tractors which left him with a significant pile of scrap metal. He began welding them into forms of animals that he grew up with as a boy in a prairie ranch in North Dakota. Using scrap parts discarded by our “throw-away” culture Swenson welds them together with ingenuity and reverence with no interest in commercial gain or constraint by precedence of elite art. Today his art pieces are displayed at Los Alamos Aquatic Center, Central Park Square and White Rock Welcome Center as well as mailboxes along Los Pueblos street with the intent to bring joy and a smile to the viewers.
